INSTALLATION AND SERVICING
- All Kilns are designed to allow passage through a standard 820mm doorway (lift of kiln door may need to be removed).
- For even tighter opening the hinges on the frame can be removed while maintaining door alignment.
- Heavy duty lift off aluminium hinges allow the kilns door to be removed to allow for easier installation.
- Serviceable parts and light weight design mean it's easy to install and maintain.
- Installation is plug & play if you have the appropriate sized plug (see the 'Power and Running Cost Tab")
- Kilns are test fired prior to leaving the factory so you're ready to start firing.
- All key electrical components are easily replaceable on a Din Rail mount.
- We have a network of recommended technicians across the country found under the "servicing" tab above

DELIVERY AND SERVICE
- We arrange delivery to your door, Australia wide via AirRoad.
- Kilns are shipped on a Pallet and the Kiln is delivered using a tailgate lifter for unloading.
- Please be aware that delivery is via courier and is limited in scope. The driver will be able to use a tailgate lifter to get it off the truck and can move the kiln a reasonable distance while on its pallet using a pallet jack.
- Please understand you may need up to 120cm of doorway clearance and that the pallet jack has limitations such as grass/gravel/steps or bumps etc. The courier is not responsible for unpacking the kiln nor removing it from its delivery pallet.
- Delivery quotes include packaging and insurance.
- It’s simply then a matter of unpacking the Kiln and taking off the pallet. (How to Video: Taking a Kiln off the pallet).
Questions
When positioning a Kiln what are the minimum clearances I should allow?
You should ensure the Kiln has at least 200mm clearance on all sides and a minimum 600mm clearance above the Kiln. NEVER place anything on top of the Kiln. Things are often forgotten and this is a fire risk.
What type of ventilation if any should I have for my kiln room?
Adequate ventilations around the kilns is essential, make sure that the kiln is situated in an area where there is at least some natural ventilation to the outside of the building (A window or doorway). If not, you may have to consider either an exhaust fan or an attached Kiln ventilation system (Ventmaster from Woodrow). Fumes from kilns can be unpleasant depending upon what you want to fire. Some concentrated fumes can be deadly, please carefully consider what you intend to fire and think of the consequences.
Can I store equipment or materials on or around the Kiln?
In a word NO. NEVER place anything on top of the Kiln. Things are often forgotten and can lead to fires. Also make sure that there are no combustible materials stored under, around or behind the kiln. ie: Timber, canvas, paper or chemicals etc.
What Electrical considerations should I take into account when installing a Kiln?
It is normally advisable to have the Kiln installed on its own separate circuit that matches the Amp rating of the kiln. This avoids tripping any other connections should there be an issue. Please note that our kilns are designed to work with a minium of 230 volts under load. It would best to have your electrician check this when installing the new circuit. If the available power is below this minumim it may result in failed firings and/or shorten the life of your elements. Kilns is installed on a new circuit must, by law, include an RCD (Residual Current Breaker). Please ensure these are Type "D" breakers. Some RCD breakers have a tendency to trip as they are overly sensitive, this is due to the moisture present inside the chamber coming in contact with the element coils. Please contact us or have your electrician call if you need further advise.
My new Kiln has a Green / Blue mark on the insulation?
When we make the Kiln we spray on a Hi-Alumina sealer coating that helps harden the board’s surface, reduces potential dust and improves the efficiency of the board. The sealer is normally clear, but we add food dye ( green or blue colour) to it so we can see that an even coating has been applied to the board. The colouring normally burns off during our first test firing but there may be some areas that may still see the colouring. It’s nothing to worry about.
Can a Woodrow Kiln be placed outside?
The short answer is maybe, but you must ensure that it can't get wet from rain from that storm that happens once in a while with horizontal rain.
The Kiln is an electrical device and is not IP rated so you must ensure that no water or moisture can get on the electrics.
As the casing and frame is made from aluminium the kiln won't have any rust issues.
Can I put my Kiln in a typical garden shed?
A: Yes, you can use an typical garden shed but you need to ensure the following:
- The shed meets the minimum clearance requirements of 200mm on all sides and 600mm above. eg for the Hobby Fire Max you'd need a shed with min dimensions of 2400x1200x2300mm (WxDxH)
- The shed has at least two windows that can be left open to ensure adequate cross ventilation.
- The shed is completely painted or made from colour bond both sides including fittings (Kiln fumes are very caustic so all zinc or gal treated metal will rust rather quickly)
- Don't keep anything flammable in that shed. (That includes the petrol can for the lawn mower!)
